There's no doubt that it's very easy to judge those who make mistakes in the outdoors. In a funny sort of way we do it for our own protection. What we're saying to ourselves is, "it's so ridiculous it could never happen to me!" The trouble with such an approach is that it's simply not true. We make loads of mistakes. It's just that most of the time we get away with it. Rather than judge others it's worth pausing for a moment and seeing if there's something we can learn.
